I wrote this song a few nights ago (yes, I thought this blog would be about poetry, too. But, hey, nothing better than winging it, right?). It had been a really hard week; harder than usual. God felt pretty far away and I was really really lonely.
So, here's my song! It's creatively titled, Song #4. Clever, huh?
verse one:
Looked in the mirror, hated what I saw.
What I saw made my heart sink low.
My eyes were once filled with the spark of life,
But now they are a picture of sorrow.
verse two:
My eyes could tell you stories of my pain,
The lonely hours of no place called home.
My lips can sing to you a sorry tune,
A song the lonely too well know.
And it goes,
chorus:
La la la la la,
Father if you please,
La la la la la,
Let this cup pass from me.
La la la la la,
I can no longer run,
La la la la la,
But let your will be done.
verse three:
I'm singin' songs about my yesterdays,
And times of runnin' through the flowered grass.
I used to have all that I thought I'd want,
But now I see that You are all I have.
verse four:
And though I'm missing everything I've lost,
I see I'm richer than I used to be.
As time keeps turnin' I'll look just to You,
Cause without You, I could not be me.
(chorus)
